Leading the Lost & Feeding the Found
I was brainstorming the other day, and by brainstorming I mean praying, in an effort to come up with a tagline for this blog that I can use in the header of my future website. Well, the Lord is amazing and answered with the line in the subtitle of this post. Speaking of amazing, most folks are familiar with the song Amazing Grace, written by John Newton, where he proclaims, “I once was lost, but now am found.”
The Bible refers to the lost and the found in a variety of ways. Here are a few in the format of lost vs. found:
Walking in darkness vs. walking in light (John 8:12)
Dead in trespasses and sin vs. alive together with Christ (Ephesians 2:1-5)
The wicked vs. the righteous (Proverbs 14:32)
Children of wrath (Ephesians 2:3) vs. children of God (John 1:12)
Tares (weeds) vs. wheat (Matthew 13:24-30)
These are only but a few examples. I implore yet-to-be believers and professed believers alike to look up and perhaps even meditate on the scriptures noted above, particularly the last one, also known as the parable of the sower. Honestly assess where you fit within the parable and pray for God’s guidance.
Hearing the powerful song Amazing Grace evokes intense emotion in both believers and, I dare say, those who claim to be unbelievers. Have you ever wondered why it would prick the ears of self-professed unbelievers? That’s something to think about. I don’t know about you but my emotional response is magnified 77 times when hearing it played on bagpipes — can you say goosebumps?! Howzabout over 200 bagpipes:
